I love new things!
I just bought a new jacket and it is unlike any jacket I have ever owned before! It is a super soft, super light-weight, thermal jacket. Even better—it is hot fuchsia with a black lining! Never ever have I owned a jacket like this one! Bought it yesterday and had to wear it today, even though the high temperature was in the 50’s! I felt super trendy and cute! Any woman alive understands me! Heck, even wearing new under garments makes us know we look great, even if no one else knows!
Anything new brings joy and anticipation—from wearing new clothes, drinking from a new coffee mug, drawing with new markers, learning new software, waking up to a new spring day! And the list goes on an on!
What IS it that makes “new” just plain fun?
I think that God made us to enjoy newness because He loves new! Just look at some of God’s “new things” in the Bible:
- New Wine
- New Wineskins
- New Heaven
- New Earth
- New Spirit
- New Heart
- New Life
- New Creation
- New Man
- New Covenant
- New Birth
- New Command
- New Song
- New Teaching
- New Testament
In fact the word “new” occurs 1850 times in the Bible!
God loves new things
In Revelations 21:5 God says “Behold, I am making everything new!” And Romans 6:4 states that we are to “walk in newness of life!”
What a revelation! God wants me to enjoy new things—like a new day, new opportunity, new friends, etc.. God enjoys restoring the old and making it new, providing fresh starts, cleaning the slate from sin, giving joy for sorrow, beauty for ashes, and a spirit of praise for heaviness or despair.
Be thankful for the newness all around you. Praise God for all the daily experiences of newness he gives you. Giving God thanks will add to your enjoyment ten-fold! Just try it!
However, truth be told, sometimes my life seems devoid of newness. I feel stuck and want to lie down on my face and give up. I am trying to survive another day, gasping for air, drowning in hopelessness.
I need the gentle spirit of Jesus to remind me that God is able and His mercies are new every morning. New is one of God’s promises to me. He makes all things new!
He IS the God of exchanges in His constant work of renewal. I give Him my sorrows, He gives me joy; I give Him my heavy heart and he gives me a spirit of praise; I give Him mourning, he gives me dancing; I give Him my grief, He gives me hope; I give Him my broken heart He gives me His healing presence.

Now Try this. . .
- Find a quiet place to sit with the Lord. Put your sorrows, or griefs, or longings, or brokenness into your hand and give them to God (Cast your cares on Him and He will sustain you. Psalm 55:2).
- Since He is the God of exchanges, ask him what He has for you in return.
- Then listen to what He has to say. What new thing does he have for you? God WILL speak to you!
Love this! He makes ALL things new!
Yes, He does! So good to hear from you Jonanna! Hope you are all doing well.
